Hey Bill, groups of Clefairy have started gathering in my neighborhood recently. Last night my Riolu was acting very anxious and didn’t want to go outside to do his business. I went out to check what was wrong, and a trio of Elgyem were eating fruit from my sitrus tree! I’ve never seen Elgyem around here before. Also, my friend swears he saw a whole bunch of Beheeyem flashing their lights over an empty field the other night when he was driving home. Should I be worried?

Sounds like a normal Monday to me, actually.

I mean, unless you don’t live near Mt. Moon. Then maybe it’s a cause for mild concern. And even then, you really don’t need to worry unless your town starts missing miltank.

I literally can’t tell whether or not you’re being flippant… —LH

For once, I’m not! —Bill

Are elgyem and beheeyem really from other worlds? What about cleffa or lunatone & solrock, and what about deoxys? Is this proof of extraterrestrial life? Could there be another world out there that evolved pokemon, and could it be habitable for us???

Of these, deoxys technically is from space but not from another world. It’s simply an extraterrestrial virus that mutated after exposure to certain types of radiation in space. (We know this via computer simulations and a digital analysis of samples taken from an inactive deoxys core.) Of course, the specific origins of said virus aren’t known, but it’s likely it simply came to be on the surface of an asteroid.

As for the others, that entirely depends on which theories you follow, as this is actually a matter of heated debate among scientists—particularly when it comes to the cleffa line. The most popular theory states that the elgyem line is indeed extraterrestrial in nature, as its appearance in Unova was abrupt and confined to one area.

Regarding cleffa, if it had indeed been extraterrestrial, it came here thousands if not millions of years ago, as clefairy colonies are well-established and often ancient (albeit extremely difficult to find). And lunatone and solrock are thought to either be sentient meteorites or mutated (and thus inactive) evolution stones, depending on whom you ask in the scientific community.

Personally, though, and in regards to your last question, I believe that even if these pokémon didn’t actually come from space (although I also admit that I believe they did), statistically speaking, there’s no doubt there are inhabitable worlds out there—and, perhaps, extraterrestrial pokémon. It simply wouldn’t make sense for there to be a great vastness that only developed one instance of life, to be frank.

I recently befriended a Beheeyem. While it’s a wonderful Pokemon and has been getting along fine with the rest of my team, I’ve noticed that my Rotom seems to be acting as a rather poor influence. At first the two were just pulling harmless pranks, but now they’ve got an obsession with purposfully erasing certain memories, watching me in my sleep, and inflicting inconvenient bouts of hypnosis. Is there any way I could encourage the two to cease this behavior without separating them? Thank you!

Believe it or not, it might be most effective to treat them like human children. Ghost-types and psychic-types tend to be highly intelligent, so they can sometimes comprehend discipline the way a younger human would.

That having been said, start off by explaining to them in a simple but calm and firm manner why their behavior is harmful. Perhaps explain to them that using hypnosis on you could actually hurt you, or ask them why they do it (other than because they think it’s funny). At this point, also try to determine why, specifically, this behavior is happening—whether it’s because they want your attention or because they’re bored or so forth. Once you determine the specific source, try to remedy that as well.

Rather than a permanent separation, consider a temporary time-out. Separate them for a short amount of time into two safe but relatively uninteresting parts of your home until they calm down. Once they do, explain to them again what specific parts of their behavior is unacceptable.

Implement “fun” activities into your routine, or make certain parts of it more exciting. The more fun your pokémon have (in ways you believe are acceptable), the less likely they’ll resort to pranks.

Finally, consider rewards. For every day they go without pulling a prank or engaging in negative behavior, give them a treat. This will also allow them to enjoy their day without engaging in bad behavior.

Ultimately, remember to be firm and calm. You’re correcting behavior, not punishing them, and there is very likely a reason why they’re engaging in this kind of behavior. If you assert yourself but show you’re willing to negotiate, it’ll be easier to control and unlearn bad habits such as these.

Best of luck, anonymous!

Elgyem and Beheeyem

Elgyem
The Cerebral Pokémon
Type: Psychic
Official Registration #: 605
Entry: According to conspiracy theorists, this small, humanoid pokémon arrived to Earth over fifty years ago, via a UFO that crash-landed in the desert. This, of course, is a rather silly claim, not only because this claim is entirely baseless but also because everyone knows that the only non-legendary pokémon of extraterrestrial origin is clefairy.

Beheeyem
The Cerebral Pokémon
Type: Psychic
Official Registration #: 606
Entry: The evolved form of elgyem, by battle experience. Very little is known about this humanoid pokémon. It has been observed to communicate with other beheeyem by flashing colored lights from its three fingers, but the patterns it uses has never been decoded. Then again, given the fact that beheeyem also possess the capability of using its telepathy to alter the memories of those around it, perhaps we have succeeded in decoding the beheeyem language and just don’t remember it.

Bill, please stop taunting the conspiracy theorists when most of your fans fall into that exact category. —LH

They are? Well, that’s a relief. I’m pretty sure one of them found out about a certain … incident involving a clefairy, so it’s good to know it’s likely it’ll be passed off as just another delightful conspiracy. —Bill
