Bill I’ve got an odd problem. My Lucario and Greninja seem to be fighting for my Gardevoir’s attention despite none of them being in the same egg group?

Get the gardevoir a mate of her choosing. That usually works.

In all seriousness, this sometimes happens with male pokémon, and there are several ways you can resolve this. You can get the gardevoir a mate as noted above, you can neuter your lucario and greninja (although this can be trickier for the latter), you can mediate, or you can simply train your pokémon to refocus their anger towards more a productive means (such as battling) while also teaching them to resolve their differences peacefully. The most extreme solution is to get a mate for everyone, as not only does this double the size of your team and thus double its needs, but also, this could encourage them to, ah, set aside their differences, so to speak. Which could be worse. So only use this method if the above several don’t seem to resolve things, anonymous.

You may be wondering why I’m not addressing the egg group issue. The truth is, simply, egg groups only refer to the logistics of both the act of mating and the production of a viable egg. Pokémon themselves, at the risk of putting things crudely, don’t care about group boundaries and may attempt to copulate with anything that they consider to be an attractive pokémon.

Hey bill, double Twins Anon. Yeah, my Lucario twins had each taken a ralts line twin. my budy suggested i take them on a triple date with me and my girlfriend. I decked him in the schnoz for the remark. I’ll be sure my male lucario knows to be gentle with my gardevoir. Would you recommend Ditto Surrogates if they decide they want eggs?

I must admit that Lanette is more of the expert in romance than I am, which I bring up only because I would suspect I’d be decked in the face as well. Honestly, that seems like a rather interesting way to spend a romantic evening to me.

Right! So! Yes, absolutely, this would be the best if they wish to raise hatchlings. Otherwise … well. As you know, it would be ill-advised to allow them to try for a hatchling by themselves. (Even if both parties were instructed to be careful.)

I’ve been a Lucario owner for quite some time, so I know that this species of Pokémon can be quite intelligent. Yet, the last thing I’d expect from my spiky, blue buddy is him pawing at the keyboard of my laptop for a while. I had to take it from him before he destroyed it out of frustration. I suppose he’s enamored by how I managed to take a spoken language and make it into a digital message. He knows how to read certain words but typing is a mystery to him. It’s fun to watch him try though.

Your lucario and the hawlucha from a few asks ago should be friends.

Hey Bill! I’m a lucario that goes by the name of Raine. I’m very well versed in com[uters, and I use them everyday. I have a few problems using keyboards as while I have extra fingers on my hands, they are very short and i’ve made at least a dozen tupos while typing this memo and i’ve probably missed some. – Raine

Hey bill? Recently, 4 of my pokemon have recently developed an interest in each other for mating. the issue? they’re 2 sets of twins: a Gardevoir and Gallade, and 2 Lucario. i’m sure you can see my predicament. Do you know of any ways i can mitigate the chances of the Ralts and Riolu born from their unions having debilitating birth defects from Cross egg group breeding, that doesn’t involve me breaking up these happy couples?

If you mean that the gardevoir and gallade have each taken a lucario each and if this ask is in response to my earlier one today, allow me to clarify.

By “risks,” I don’t mean that an egg will be produced. I actually mean “mating styles and mechanics between egg groups differs so drastically that not only is a fertilized egg out of such a union thoroughly impossible but also it’s likely that someone is going to get injured for even trying.”

Or to put it a little more colorfully, do you know of those stories of humans or pokémon dying because a human got a bit too close to their favorite team members? In certain circumstances, that will happen if incompatible pokémon attempt to mate. Because lucario, gardevoir, and gallade are roughly the same height and mass, you probably won’t have to worry, although lucario are supposedly … energetic when they mate. (So, well. You may need to worry about your gardevoir. Your gallade should be fine.)

If you mean that the twins are attempting to mate within twin pairings, in an incestuous relationship, then my advice would be to introduce more, unrelated pokémon to those pairs. Happy or not, that’s … about as much of a good thing as human twins pairing off.

Riolu and Lucario

The Emanation Pokémon

Entry: Riolu have the ability to read the emotions of others as well as communicate its own emotions via aura. Yet it is a fighting-type, the single most likely type to engage in physical combat and thus the most likely type to endure great physical injury. For this reason, the riolu’s empathic abilities may be among the most counterproductive powers among the pokémon kingdom. However, at the very least, it should be a comfort for riolu trainers to know that the state will typically pay for any service a Nurse Joy provides, including mental counseling as a result of being in close proximity to a fighting-type that translates its pain into horrific light patterns.

Lucario
The Aura Pokémon
Type: Fighting/Steel

Entry: The evolved form of riolu, in response to both levels of sunlight and closeness with its trainer. Well-trained lucario have the abilities to sense the aura of all living things, understand human speech, read the thoughts and emotions of those whose auras they sense, channel aura into projectiles and weapons, execute extraordinary feats of physical prowess, and roll over and play dead for biscuits. This is why lucario are the second most popular pokémon on any given video sharing website, next to the members of the skitty line.

Mega Lucario
The Aura Pokémon
Type: Fighting/Steel

Entry: The advanced form of lucario, via lucarionite. Upon mega evolution, lucario’s aura-based powers increase in potency. In proportion to this, this pokémon’s aura-sensing appendages on either side of its head increase in length, separate, and move seemingly at will in ways that many people liken to tentacles. Consequently, with the combination of its tentacle-like, aura-sensing appendages and its bipedal, dog-like form, mega lucario has become popular in many internet-based fan circles … namely because it’s even more amusing when it rolls over and plays dead for biscuits. (Honestly, readers, what were you thinking I was referring to?)

My Lucario has been really aggressive, lately. He picked a fight with my Midday Lycanroc and he bit me twice when I tried to separate them. What should I do?

As with all instances of pokémon aggression, it’s impossible to answer definitively without knowing the full context. The best thing to do for the time being is to take into consideration the surrounding circumstances and work from there. Is this recent behavior, or did it start when either of your pokémon (or both) evolved? Does your lucario seem to lash out only when your lycanroc does something, or does he attack on sight? If the former, what are your pokémon doing just before your lucario attacks?

Once you figure out what might be triggering your lucario’s attacks, then you’ll be able to work out a solution by figuring out what it is, specifically, that your lucario wants.

Until then, it may be helpful to you to browse our team building tag (http://bills-pokedex.tumblr.com/tagged/team-building ), as many others have encountered situations in which their pokémon have become aggressive towards their own teammates. Perhaps one of their situations may shed some light on your own.

Some time ago, my Zoroark recieved an almost fatal blow against a wild Pokemon, and hes still recovering. The nurses warn me that he wont be able to recover fully and he wont be able to battle again. Im a bit worried because the rest of my team have been looking forward to having him back, and I’m in a panic about how to break the news that my poor Zoroarck wont be able to join in our battles, even if he still will be around. How do i break the news? His team mates are a Krokorok and a Lucario.

The important thing is to make sure your zoroark understands that his worth both as a living being and as your partner are not determined by the battlefield. If you can reassure him that the way you see him hasn’t changed, despite the fact that he can no longer perform what had been one of his main duties on your team, life during and after recovery will be a lot easier for him. My advice would be to find something he can do that will keep him close to you as often as possible. Don’t keep him from watching battles if he wants to do that; rather, simply keep him from joining. Preventing him from watching will make him feel excluded from your life, especially if you battle frequently. Perhaps even allow him to mentor your krokorok and lucario if his condition allows him to use his abilities outside of the high-energy environment of the battlefield.

As for breaking the news to both him and the rest of your team, break it to your team first. Tell them that their teammate will need all their support but that just because he can’t battle doesn’t mean he should be treated as if he can’t do anything. Make sure they understand that he needs them to include him in as many of their activities as he can physically handle, and let them know that most likely, your zoroark won’t appreciate being treated gently. Do this in a confident but gentle tone, and speak clearly. Although the news may be devastating to them at worst (or perhaps disappointing at best), getting them to understand your zoroark’s condition as quickly as possible will help you to break the news to your zoroark.

Once you’re ready for Zoroark, inform him gently. Have his team in the room with you for support, and let him know that you and the others will work hard to help him through recovery.
